ChatGPT and Its Impact on Our World

The cover image for this article was created by Dall-E (an artificial intelligence program designed to create images based on prompts). I’ll be sure to make another post giving Dall-E the credit that it deserves. Besides Dall-E, one of the main generative AI tools is ChatGPT.

As most of us know, ChatGPT, launched late November 2022, has taken the world by storm. This type of Artificial Intelligence can answer just about any prompt that you give it and can even create new works, such as poetry, summaries, scenarios, games, etc. It does have its limitations though, such as not being able to access news after September 2021. I anticipate that in a later model, more information will be uploaded to the server’s database, and it will be able to answer prompts with much newer information.

More important than what ChatGPT does is how ChatGPT will affect us as a whole. This has been a hotly debated topic over the past year or so, with the argument being split among political party lines and even between families themselves. One side argues that ChatGPT will ruin the human economy and take jobs away from the majority of people, only leaving jobs for the wealthy. Others argue that ChatGPT is good for humankind and increases efficiency while reducing errors. I haven’t done enough research to fully claim which side I agree with more (I don’t think this is a black and white scenario, I think that it might be more of a spectrum).

As I’m doing research, I’ve come across many fascinating articles about the history of AI and how ChatGPT affects us all (for better or for worse). This is the link to my favorite article (which I found really understandable and down to earth without a lot of fluff) so far (just wanted to share it with you!). I hope you enjoy the article just as much as I did!
