A few months ago, I joined the House of Representatives candidate for district 16, Rishi Kumar’s, campaign. I’ve always loved international relations and government in general, thus me joining Model UN at my school. Working on this campaign has introduced me to new skills and strengthened things that I’ve learned through other experiences as well! 

Being an Intern for Rishi Kumar for Congress entails work, but lots of great experiences. Every week, I canvass 50+ doors, in which I go to houses and tell them all about Rishi in hopes for a vote for this campaign. Through this experience, I’ve learned that there are lots of different personalities, and how to approach people. I’ve had customer experience at my volunteership at Garrod Farms, but going to people’s houses is a completely new experience that I’ve loved! 

While canvassing these homes, we sometimes meet people who are just completely not willing to talk to us. Sometimes, even starting a conversation is futile, so we hand them a flier and wish them a good day. However, the best feeling is convincing someone who is either hesitant or outright refusing to hear you, to support Rishi’s candidacy! 

Along with canvassing, we also work on social media posts and outreach in order to reach different demographics and a larger constituency as well. Working with Rishi and his team has given me lots more insight to how a campaign’s inner workings function and how to work with other interns on the campaign. We also send out emails to voters informing them of Rishi’s campaign and getting responses from empowered voters feels amazing! 

Overall, I’ve loved working on this campaign and I can’t wait to keep working with the interns. I love going door to door and having heartfelt conversations with people, especially those who feel their voice needs to be heard. Being able to inform these voters feels good to the bottom of my heart and seeing them feel empowered with supporting Rishi has no equivalent. I love working on this campaign and canvassing CA District 16! Vote Rishi Kumar for Congress 2024!
